Carl Mumba once carried the promise of becoming one of Zimbabwe’s leading fast bowlers. Capable of hitting speeds close to 140s (km/h), he quickly caught the eye as an exciting prospect and was capped across all three formats.
But his rise was halted. A knee surgery — which he openly admits derailed his rhythm and confidence — left his international career struggling for momentum.
Now, in a new environment with renewed focus on fitness, Mumba has found fresh life in the European Cricket League, where he has enjoyed a standout season.
Fittingly, Mumba holds a unique place in Zimbabwe’s cricket history. He was the nation’s 100th Test player, making his debut in Zimbabwe’s 100th Test match, against Sri Lanka at Harare Sports Club in 2016.
In this conversation with The Thirdman, Mumba reflects on his journey, his European resurgence, and whether his Zimbabwe career is truly behind him.
