Zimbabwe recorded their fifth away Test win and their 14th overall since gaining Test status in 1992, and it could only have happened in Bangladesh. This is where they achieved their highest successful chase in Test cricket, scoring 174 for 7.

Prior to this victory, Zimbabwe had not won a Test match since 2021, when they defeated Afghanistan. That losing streak ended in Sylhet, a location where they last celebrated a Test win in Bangladesh back in 2018.

It was in Bangladesh that Blessing Muzarabani made his mark in the annals of Zimbabwean cricket history. His impressive match figures of 9 for 122 are the best achieved by a Zimbabwean bowler in Bangladesh. Additionally, he and the legendary Heath Streak are the fastest Zimbabwean bowlers to reach 50 wickets in Test matches, accomplishing this in just 11 Tests or 18 innings.

For coach Justin Sammons, this victory in Bangladesh marks his first Test win after coming close against Ireland and Afghanistan.

Chevrons celebrate against Bangladesh
Blessing Muzarabani – Player of the match

For a country that rarely celebrates Test victories, this win is a significant achievement for Zimbabwe. There is still one more Test to play in Bangladesh, and regardless of the outcome, this is a moment to cherish for the Chevrons.

Where else could Zimbabwe have gained such a confidence boost ahead of their first Test against England in 22 years? It truly had to be in Bangladesh.
